I Like Technology. But I'm Fascinated by Businesses.

The short version of who's actually doing this work, and why.

The Nowell Family
Michael S. Nowell, DDS - Over 40 years serving the Dothan community

Nowell Tech got its start inside a family business. I've lived in Dothan my whole life, and my wife and I are raising four kids here. Dr. Michael S. Nowell has practiced dentistry in the Dothan area for more than 40 years, and I spent nearly two decades keeping his practice's systems running. That experience taught me what it takes to keep a business operating when its technology must work every day.

That's where the habit came from: understand how the business actually runs before recommending anything. Nowell Tech opened its doors to businesses across the Wiregrass because the same problems that used to slow down one family practice - manual work that should have been automated, disconnected systems that didn't talk to each other, handoffs that depended on one person remembering to do them, technology that didn't match how the business actually operated - are just as common, and just as costly, everywhere else.

Where the Perspective Comes From

Twenty years inside a large, process-driven operation taught me to see technology in context - how work actually moves, where handoffs break down, and how a small inefficiency compounds when it repeats a few thousand times a day.

During those same years, I built deep, practical IT experience across networking, security, technology work in HIPAA-regulated environments, healthcare billing audits, and the business systems that are supposed to make companies run more smoothly instead of getting in the way.

That work included my family's dental practice, where Nowell Tech's roots began. Nowell Tech is where I'm putting that experience to work now - full time.

The Part I Actually Enjoyed

The part I actually enjoyed most was never the computer itself. It was figuring out why something wasn't working the way it should.

Why are we doing this by hand? Why does this depend on one person? Why are we entering the same information twice? Why can't the owner get a straight answer to a simple question? Where is the time actually going? What's really limiting production?

I enjoy tracing business problems to their source and building practical fixes.

Tell the Truth and Leave Things Better

Here's what that means in practice.

  • If you don't need something, I'll tell you instead of selling it to you.
  • If I haven't done something before, I'll tell you up front.
  • If someone else is better suited to solve it, I'll help you find them.
  • I'll take on problems worth solving, even when they're difficult.
  • What I build gets documented, so you're never dependent on me.
  • When the work is done, I'll make sure it actually worked.
  • Every interaction should leave something better than I found it.
